Publisher's Note: How the Mountain View Chronicle Got Its Name

Let’s talk about our name: The Mountain View Chronicle. For a news blog serving the Daybreak community, you’d think our name would reflect that. “Daybreak News” or “The Daybreak Post,” or something like that. We even reached out to the community on Facebook and received a ton of awesome name ideas, our favorite being “Daybreaking News.” But after having a chat with the nice folks at Larry H. Miller Real Estate, we learned that we would have to go in a different direction. So, we started thinking of alternative names.

We thought about doing something that doesn’t technically include the word “Daybreak,” but is still derived from it: like “The Breakdown,” which was another idea suggested by the community. The problem with that is that there are already several media outlets, podcasts, websites, etc. with that name so that wouldn’t really work.

Then we started thinking about utilizing some unique aspect of the geography in or around Daybreak. There’s the lake… we could do “The Lakeside Times” or something like that. But those all sounded too generic. We thought about incorporating “Oquirrh” into the name, but using a word with sort-of tricky spelling isn’t great for marketing and SEO. Then we zeroed in on Mountain View Corridor. A regional thoroughfare that both slices through Daybreak and connects it to the rest of the southwest valley. Like Daybreak itself, it was built to serve the immediate needs of the present, but with an eye towards the inevitable growth of the future.

So we settled on going with Mountain View… something. We thought about a bunch of the various news-related titles: Post, Record, Times, Tribune, etc. But the one we ended up liking the most was Chronicle. After all, if Mountain View Corridor is going to be the inspiration for our name, then why not keep the MVC acronym?
